Artefact-Based Requirements Engineering Improvement: Learning to Walk in Practice

چکیده

Requirements engineering process improvement (REPI) has gained much attention in research and practice. Most REPI approaches are of solution-driven and activity-based nature. They focus on the assessment of company-specific RE reference models against an external norm of best practices, and they propagate an improvement by forecasting the adaptation of the processes and methods in the RE reference model towards that norm. In recent years, we could develop a first problem-driven RE improvement approach that supports an improvement against individual goals and problems of a company putting primary attention to the quality of the RE artefacts (named ArtREPI ). In this short paper, we briefly illustrate our resulting approach and report on our initial experiences from ongoing empirical evaluations in practice. We conclude with a summary of planned next steps.

A Case Study on the Application of an Artefact-Based Requirements Engineering Approach

[Background:] Nowadays, industries are facing the problem that the Requirements Engineering (RE) process is highly volatile, since it depends on project influences from the customer’s domain or from process models used. Artefactbased approaches promise to provide guidance in the creation of consistent artefacts in volatile project environments, because these approaches concentrate on the artefa...

A Safety-II Perspective on Organisational Learning in Healthcare Organisations; Comment on “False Dawns and New Horizons in Patient Safety Research and Practice”

In their recent editorial Mannion and Braithwaite provide an insightful critique of traditional patient safety improvement efforts, and offer a powerful alternative vision based on Safety-II thinking that has the potential to radically transform the way we approach patient safety. In this commentary, I explore how the Safety-II perspective points to new directions for organisational learning in...

Improving Requirements Engineering by Artefact Orientation

The importance of continuously improving requirements engineering (RE) has been recognised for many years. Similar to available software process improvement approaches, most RE improvement approaches focus on a normative and solution-driven assessment of companies rather than on a problem-driven RE improvement. The approaches dictate the implementation of a one-size-fits-all reference model wit...

Reconstruction vs. Interaction-based Output Practice: (in relation to EFL learner’s speaking skill and learning styles)

The belief that output practice is crucial in L2 learning affects foreign language teaching methodology. And researchers have endeavored to find the best ways to encourage learners to produce and practice whatever they hear as an input in the process of learning. Moreover, learning styles and the importance of matching learners’ styles with those of teachers inspired the researchers to inves...

Requirements process improvement through the phased introduction of good practice

Current process improvement and maturity models pay little attention to requirements engineering. Typically, requirements engineering is considered to be a single activity in the overall development process. Even where this is not strictly the case, the requirements activities are not elaborated in sufficient detail to permit the derivation of an improvement plan. This is unfortunate because re...
